Kirky Puffers were small steamships built in Kirkintilloch, which plied up and down the Forth and Clyde Canal, alongside this pub. Kirkintilloch was the only place in Scotland where ships were built inland.

We took over the pub in 2010 and while we were refurbishing we found a really old safe which was hidden away in the roof space. We have never been able to open it to find out but rumour has it locally
