We had tickets for the theatre at 7.30. We arrived at the Windmill just before 6pm. The two ladies in charge were really helpful in accommodating our need to leave shortly after 7.00. The sharing food arrived promptly and was just what we wanted. We've been before to this historic inn and will certainly go again. It's a no-nonsense establishment - what an English pub should be.
Lovely pub! Had a great meal there with my other half. Great prices and really quick service!
First of all- I would like to start by saying that this is probably the worst pub i have ever been to. We arrived at 13.30 on a thursday afternoon, the pub wasn't busy and it initially looked like really nice and inviting pub. So we (my family of 4) decided to order a drink and have lunch. We ordered two chicken katsu burgers, one of the classic beef burgers and a fish and chips. Once again i emphasise that the pub wasn't busy. We got 3 of the 4 drinks instantly but had some problems with the beer since they where changing the barrel (which is understandable and we thought it wouldn't take too long) Half an hour later, there was still no beer so we asked, and they said the barrel was still being changed. We finally received the beer 40 minutes after ordering. We then shortly received a second beer which we assume was given to us as an accident. We waited over a whole hour after ordering our food, until it arrived (it was about 14:40 at this point). It was disappointing to say the least. The chicken katsu burger was so bad, a McDonald's mcchicken sandwich was good compared to it. Burnt bun and dry meat with basic toppings. Nothing special. The fish and chips was okay, nothing special, just like the average pub fish and chips. Same goes with the classic beef burger. The waiter gave us our food and took a while until we recieved cutlery, we only had one napkin for the whole table which was the cherry on top. We paid 60£ for a bad meal, with bad service and an uninviting ambiance. It was cold and dark inside and really lacked some life and warmth to it. I must admit that the staff tried their best, and seemed visibly stressed after multiple complaints from other families, but they should deal with them better and be more clear about the issues they are facing. They where clearly short staffed. In conclusion, I do not recommend. Bad food, expensive prices and bad, uninviting service.
We absolutely loved The Windmill in Stratford upon Avon!! The atmosphere was fantastic, the young publican was extremely friendly and helpful with travel recommendations, the beer was cold and the food delicious (especially the Steak and Ale Pie and the Burger 👍👍). Would highly recommend. Well worth a visit.
A nice rear patio. A quaint old pub inside. A good choice of beers. The food was excellent: it came quickly, and was of great quality. I had the Big Fish and Chips, it was superb for £13.95. See pic (partly eaten because it was so good!)
