About us

Thank you for your cooperation with current Covid-19 legal restrictions in Wales which exist for the safety of individuals, communities and the NHS!

A warm welcome awaits you at the White Lion Hotel. With its original oak beams, inglenook fireplace and cobbled forecourt, the hotel still retains its long history as a traditional coaching inn.

Popular with locals and visitors alike, the White Lion is an ideal base from which to explore Machynlleth and the beautiful Dyfi Valley, the Cambrian Mountains and the sandy beaches of the Cardigan Bay coast.

Breakfast is served daily between 8.30 and 9.30am, but if you require an earlier time, simply request your needs and we will oblige. Lunch and dinner are served between 12 noon and 9.00pm. You can relax in the informal atmosphere of the bar or alternatively enjoy the quieter surroundings of the restaurant. From our kitchen, we offer a wide range of dishes with a special emphasis on fresh, local produce, such as locally-farmed beef and lamb. The menu, which also includes a choice of vegetarian meals, is supplemented by daily specials which start at £5.00.

The bar doubles as the hotel's reception area. We like to have an emphasis on relaxed informality at the White Lion - after all, you are on holiday!

Our staff will meet you at the bar, guide you through registration and show you to your room. If you need help with your luggage, we will be happy to assist.

All rooms have hospitality trays, full central heating and remote controlled colour televisions. Tariff includes a full traditional breakfast and is inclusive of VAT at 20%. Our Children's Certificate permits us to welcome children in the bar areas until 9.30pm. Accommodation discounts are offered for large groups, and at certain quiet periods of the year. In addition, conference and seminar facilities are offered. Drying room and secure storage are available for hikers and cyclists' equipment. Visa, Mastercard and Maestro all accepted.

The White Lion did a great job of looking after us volunteer stewards during the Machynlleth Comedy Festival in 2023. The pub laid on a spread to us when we first arrived. This was hearty fayre and had a number of options. We had a nice couple of drinks in the back room and I could tell that they valued the festival. The staff were always friendly when I popped in for a beer during the event. There was a good range of real ales. The customers were great as well, there was always someone to talk to about football or cycling or indeed, the festival that was going on! There is a great beer garden with views of the mountains along with a cosy interior complete with fireside. I didn’t see the rooms but one of the acts said that she was staying there and she said that it was a nice place to stay. I know that the pub sponsor one of the stages so it’s great to see that they appreciate the value of the comedy festival and what it does for the town and the community.

We can for the food and was not disappointed. Delicious! And a good amount too. Dog friendly as well, there is a seating area in the back which they allow for this which was fine by us. Seems to have a good atmosphere, feels like a proper local.

Our family of 5 ate our evening meal here and had an enjoyable experience. Good selection of drinks and a varied menu to suit all tastes. The food was hot and the portions were generous. I enjoyed and would recommend the ribs which were tender and accompanied with yummy sweet potato fries. The burgers were good and hunters chicken had lots of BBQ sauce, but perhaps a little too much cheese! Desserts were also yummy. All in all good value and friendly service.

Central location in town - handy for the railway station and the restaurant we were dining at. Room was clean, bathroom looked like it had recently been renewed, loads of charging points around the room and car parking was free - what’s not to like? Didn’t have any food but the beer was good and all staff were very helpful.

Generally pretty good. Ample parking. Food available all day. Beer was nice. We had 2 different rooms and one had been refurbished nicely and the other was a bit old. Mostly quiet. We had an issue with pricing through our booking agent, no fault of the hotel, yet they compensated us, so grateful for the kindness.
