About us

Welcome to the Wheatsheaf Ale House, an 18th Century Listed Ale House, and one of the oldest pubs in Swindon, Wiltshire. Located in the very heart of the historical Old Town and within walking distance of Swindon Town Gardens, the Wheatsheaf Ale House is the only Wadworth pub located in Swindon. Wadworth provides us with our Real Ales and Craft Beers, and has been brewing beer in the market town of Devizes, Wiltshire, since 1875. The Wheatsheaf Ale House pays homage to the traditional British drinking establishment, with its vast range of Wadworth Real Ales, craft Beers & Stouts, whilst tipping its hat to the present and the future, by serving up perfectly chilled Continental Beers and Lagers, its superb range of craft spirits and a wonderfully balanced cocktail menu. What this means to you, our valued guests is that our pub offers a warm and friendly welcome to anyone, young and old, to come and enjoy the food, drinks and great atmosphere we have on offer. Our food also reflects both the established, and modern tastes of todays clientele, with dishes ranging from the traditional Ham, Egg & Chips, and our forever popular Sunday Roast to the more adventurous Peri-Peri Chicken Strips and Loaded Nachos.

Twice every month, we invite the very best in local bands, musicians and entertainers to come and play their latest material and provide the live entertainment. All of the entertainment we invite, represent the very best in local, undiscovered musical and entertainment talent, some of whom are tribute acts, whilst others give us a taste of their own material!

For the Summer months we have a cosy outside seating area, perfect for you to sip on a chilled drink and wind down after a long day! During the Winter months we have a roaring, log burning stove, perfect to sit around with a pint of Real Ale and sample one of our renowned home cooked meals. Do you have an upcoming special event that requires catering for? Our recently launched Outside Catering service means that we can now cater for all, whether that be a wedding, a birthday, a christening, picnics in the park and everything in between. Just drop us a line and we’d be happy to help! It just leaves us to say thank you for learning about us, and we look forward to welcoming you to the Wheatsheaf Ale House!.

A truly enthralling place to visit. So much to see and wonder at. The audio guides are free and help to explain the various rooms and paintings that you see. The Coronation dress and Robe of Estate and jewellery worn by the Queen are stunning and there are several information boards that give you a brief description of the ceremony. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to take photos or videos inside the castle, so I recommend you buy one of the guide books that are on sale. The gift shops offer a variety of things to buy from reasonably priced to "how much?" (Gasp). You really need two or 3 days to see it all, including St George's Chapel, another beautiful place to visit with so much history. I had better stop now as I seem to be writing a guide book 📖

Great relaxed, friendly pub. Good selection of beers and ciders. Real fire which is perfect after an evening walk and very dog friendly which is always a bonus.
