The Whalebone Freehouse is situated just a couple of miles north of Norwich City centre and nestles amongst the many Georgian chimney pots in NR3, affectionately known as the Platinum Triangle.
The Whalebone built circa 1830 is an independent, privately owned Pub and was purchased by the current owner Mike Lorenz in 1993. Since then the Whalebone has undergone many tasteful restorations and additions and has been run by General Manager Steve Fiske since 1994
Described by many when visiting for the first time as a tardis, the space and varied facilities behind the small front entrance are deceiving and our claim to be where Traditional Pub meets Modern Wine Bar have been endorsed by customers comparing the Whalebone to that of “ A hidden gem “.
In addition to an exciting selection of Lagers and Ciders eight Cask Ales are always on tap from Regional and Local Breweries and with Cask Marque accreditation quality is assured. To complement this some great Wines supplied by Adnams of Southwold are available from our cellar.

Attentive staff. Good outdoor area for summer dining and entertaining. Live music also performs outdoors or indoors. Main bat with smaller bar at back. Seating area with parasols across small access road. Food served outside with vendors on set nights.
Great place, good service. Went for the sporting event and they had plenty of TVs but the sound was a bit quiet. Nice place for a beer
Great pub, doesn't get much better watch the football and eat amazing thai food from Phad thai 😋
Reasonable pricing and plenty of drinks on tap, a real real ale pub, for connoisseurs. The staff were very friendly, and the drinks were cold. My wife declared this was a nice 'cosy pub'. Strangely industrial gents urinal, but a Dyson hand drier, which is nice. Nice handwash in the ladies and nice and clean.
Well, what can I say about this place. My best friend and her Fiance married this weekend at Norwich Castle, and held their Wedding Reception here. We had an amazing day. Much of this was due to Steve the Landlord, and his staff. What a lovely man, and, the staff were an amazing young team. They could not do enough for us. So friendly, so sweet and polite. An absolute credit to the venue and Steve. Thank you Steve for allowing us to come in early to set up, so much appreciated. Very kind of you. A superb friendly pub, enhanced by the regulars of the "four legged" kind. All eager to have a tummy rub, or a doggy treat from behind the bar. Excellent dog friendly place. The pets were all under control and not rollocking about the place. Even if you are not a pet fan, this place is a must to visit as they were all impeccably behaved. Had we have not been staying at a hotel, we certainly would have brought our four legged friends with us. The wedding party were not all local people. We ranged from Ireland, to Leeds, to Londoners, with a few Norwich folk thrown in. All of the regulars made us totally welcome. From me, who ran pubs for over 26 years and my family and friends, whom many of us have been in this industry, and know what makes a good pub, a massive thank you to you, Steve, and your staff. When I am next down that way, I will certainly return. Clean, friendly, good choice of beers, food, dogs, wonderful staff and quite simply, a beautiful pub. You must pay it a visit!!
