"The White Swan in Middleham has always been one of our very favourite places to eat - the food, atmosphere and location are second to none"
The White Swan Hotel, one of Middlehams most popular and attractive inns. The purchase of the towns old Post Office has enabled owners Paul and Helen Klein and General Manger Glenn Fletcher to create a 60 cover brasserie and 17 bedrooms glorious countryside retreat.
Overlooking the towns picturesque market square and boasting lovely rural views, the White Swan is now a premier town house hotel with superb facilities including free wireless internet for all residents.
This comprehensive and sympathetic restoration means that a Middleham jewel is now sparkling again.

My wife and I spent a very relaxing three nights here (with our dog) and had dinner on each evening. The staff (we met Hugo and Rui) are great. The evening food is of a very high standard and we really enjoyed all the meals; similarly good breakfasts. Easy parking in the square. Middleham is an interesting place: the castle is a good visit, walks on footpaths and bridleways afforded great views and wildlife. Would definitely return.
Stopped here at the Tack Room for lunch recently as it looked good from the outside and the menu sounded delicious. There was only one person visibly working who, while perfectly friendly, was hard to get hold of and we felt a bit in the way. The food that came out was very disappointing - we ordered a croque monsieur but what came out was a small white bread cheese and ham toastie with crisps. We also ordered a Wensleydale and chutney ciabatta but what arrived was what seemed to be sliced ordinary cheese (absolutely not Wensleydale!) with what tasted like a cheap version of Branston in one of those pre-baked white batons you get in packs of two at the supermarket, not a ciabatta. All served on slates to make it look better, but it didn't do the job. Everything looks very elegant - whoever is designing the setup knows their stuff - but this place doesn't deliver for food at lunchtime at least. The staff member we met was very helpful and pleasant, but whoever is in the kitchen isn't very skilled and could do with a bit of training.
We would like to thank Fiona and the rest of the staff for making our stay over the New Year an enjoyable experience. We stayed for 3 nights with our dog and were made to feel welcome. Its nice to find a hotel that makes dogs welcome as well. The room was comfortable and the food and service from all of the staff was excellent. The location of the Wensleydale is great for exploring the area. We would definitely recommend.
We visited Middleham for lunch one Sunday and what a find the Wensleydale hotel proved to be. We thought there was a French feel to it and as the owners have lived and worked in France , not surprising. We had a 3 course meal from the set menu, and it was delicious, one of the best meals we have ever had. Although we live some miles away, we plan to return.
Just returned home after a short stay of 2 nights. Lovely hotel, my single room was delightful. Had evening meal on both evenings in the Tack room. The service was spot on and what can I say about the food, just putting delicious would not do it justice. It was perfect, sea bream the first evening and Lamb rump the next. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend staying there.

Lively split-level local of character with three separate rooms one of which functions as a pool room. The decoration has a distinct horse racing theme and there is a real fire.

The Cover Bridge Inn is a very special place. This characterful old coaching inn has been welcoming travellers for hundreds of years - a tradition continued by owners Nick & Anne Harrington for 15 years!
