Since opening in 1991, the Inn has continued to be proudly independent, enabling the owner, Martin Lloyd-Morris, to provide a personal service to locals, passers-by and those who have discovered the opportunity to linger longer and stay a night or two.
Whether you want to quench your thirst with a properly served drink after a long, hard day at work, sharing good-humoured conversation with other similar minded people; taking time to sit down and eat real, tasty food featuring where ever possible, locally produced fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese and more; or. . .
stay in one of only three individually furnished and decorated bedrooms, taking a well-earned break away from the hub-bub of daily life, Walter de Cantelupe Inn takes great pleasure in extending genuine English hospitality to all in equal measure.
Another advantage of our Inn is it has plenty of off-road car parking.

Fantastic place owned by Martin. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you..
Today I took my elderly mother for a lunchtime meal for mother's day at the Walter de Cantelupe Inn, in Kempsey. It was a last minute booking and they could not have been more accomodating if they had tried. They were helpful, friendly and the service was impecable. The menu was a choice of three main courses and three desserts, but all great offerings. The food was beautifully cooked and utterly delicious. The portion size was perfect. I would HIGHLY recommend lunching here and will definitely be visiting again in the future.
What an excellent find, a gem of a place, and Martin was a wonderful host. Excellent food, cooked fresh to order, room was characteristic, great shower and an amazing bed, best night sleep I have had in weeks. Breakfast was very fresh and tasty, Martin is an excellent cook and very friendly and approachable. We will definitely stay again. I can't recommend this B&B enough 😊
What a joy to visit this Inn. Right from the moment we arrived Martin made us so welcome. Nothing was to much trouble,he was so invested in making sure our stay was perfect. It was from the room(spacious with the biggest bed we had ever seen to the exceptional evening meal, wonderfull beer then followed In the morning by a beautiful full English breakfast. Would recommend this Inn to anybody.
We stayed here in late October, and it was really lovely. A very tiny old inn, but very homely. Martin made us very welcome, and we had a lovely evening meal, desert in our room, and a smashing breakfast. Lovely roaring fire too. Can't wait to stay again. We didn't see Walter but did have cantelupe for breakfast!
