Welcome to The Valiant Soldier Pub & Restaurant in Exmoor
We are ideally placed for exploring Exmoor, the Brendon & Quantock Hills or just 10 minutes drive away from the coast at Watchet. The area offers plenty to suit all tastes including: riding, walking, golf, fishing (trout, sea and fresh-water), hunting, shooting, many historic villages & castles, a country park, steam railway and seaside resorts.
We are happy to make arrangements for whatever type of holiday you require.
Inside, you will find all the character and atmosphere expected including wooden beams, an inglenook fireplace and log fires in the colder months. We serve traditional, local real ales, wines and spirits. We also have excellent catering facilities offering a full á la carte menu, and wine list, or alternatively select from our snack menu. The emphasis is on tasty home cooking, available 7 days a week.
“A friendly pub, with the emphasis on good food and good ale”
The Coleridge Way
The Coleridge Way is a 36 mile walk taking you through the stunning Somerset country side. The route was inspired by Samuel Coleridge the poet and philosopher who lived in Nether Stowey where the Coleridge Way begins. The Valiant Soldier is situated half way along the route and is ideal for an over night stop and well deserved meal!
“Follow in the footsteps of the romantic poet”.

Delicious Sunday Lunch & they kindly fitted us in when the kitchen was closing in 10 minutes.
Had a really good meal here with friends. The menu spoilt us for choice with so many dishes that looked good. The service was very good and the bill was very reasonable. We will certainly be booking again soon.
Superb meal for the four of us. All different meals and everyone singing the praises. Lovely selection of beers served by Lisa With her usual happy smile and great friendly service.
Absolutely love this place, reminds me of home. Bring back sticky toffee pudding 😋. Great service. Great food. Good portions. Overall just a lovely place that me and my family go every time we come back to England. Kid friendly as well. Good old British pub with a nice inn.
Have visited the Valiant Soldier on various occasions for meals and drinks. It has an excellent menu with a good range to suite all tastes. With the food being well prepared and presented. There are 'Well kept' beers all served by friendly and polite members of staff, in a cosy setting. Personally I recomend the steak, stilton and caramelised onions Baguette.
