I celebrated my 60th birthday here in the gin library at The Sun and we had a fabulous time. You can't fault the food, the service, or the atmosphere. Thank you to Jo the manager for all her support planning the event, and Bonnie for running it all so smoothly. So very grateful, and everyone had a good time. A friend is already booking her 60th there following mine!
Pudding at the end of Burns’ Night Supper. Feel full to bursting. I was worried that Callum might lose a finger whilst addressing the Haggis. Thankfully no ambulance required!
Lovely local and will be back. Nut roast was good, but the gravy could have a bit more flavour and be a bit thicker. Cheese tart was very small for the price - a slice of tart would be more accurate. Hopefully I can give it 5 stars next time.
A big thank you to Jo, Beth, Bonnie & Ria and all the team at The Sun. We had a fantastic wedding reception in the gin library. Great organisation, communication and planning from Jo & Beth made wedding planning simple. Bonnie, Ria & team were excellent on the day, nothing was too much trouble for you. You made every guest feel welcome. The decoration was beautiful and the the gin library was immaculate! The guests raved about the food, every dish was delicious. L&S
I would give it a 4.5 star for the food because it was mostly good, but the lamb roast lacked a bit of seasoning, and the fish (from fish and chips) was a bit bland. Else the food was generally nice. The 5 star, though, is for the service. Very friendly and accommodating service. My son wanted roast chicken with gravy in place of the chicken goujons, and that was accommodated without a fuss. The puddings were also very tasty, and the cocktails were nice. It's a nice atmosphere as well for a Sunday dinner.

Opened as the Hope Beer House in the 1870s, this pub got its mock-Tudor panelling between the wars. In 2010, closure loomed, but locals clubbed together and bought the lease (adding the freehold in 2015)
