Located on the main Edinburgh to Borders route the hotel began as a coaching inn in 1831. We are the ideal destination for lunch, three course meal, coffee & home baking or a cooling drink, we have it all.
The Stair Arms has recently been refurbished by the Ramsay family who own & manage the hotel. They have created beautiful interiors where freshly prepared, locally sourced food is served.

I went as part of a large group for Christmas lunch. There is plenty of parking available. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The premises are very clean and tidy. I chose off the three course Christmas menu and all three courses were delicious! They offer a good variety of drinks also. Would highly recommend!
We went to the restaurant here in a large group for a Christmas lunch. There was a good choice on the menu with reasonable prices. The food was excellent and the service was great.
Been a couple of times but on last occasion the service was very poor. We'd reserved a table for 6, on arrival the floor at table wasn't cleaned of food debris, the waitresses are not properly trained to wait tables and when asked to clear glasses they were quite annoyed. Food when it came was acceptable but I doubt we shall return. It's a lovely place but waiting staff let the management down !!!
Had a beautiful meal here today! Perfect start to our holiday. I had fillet steak and the trimmings, and the husband had a burger and trimmings. Highly recommend! Best steak I've had in 25 years! Service was great, and I couldn't believe how reasonable the bill was. Will definitely be back! Thank you 😊
Attended a wedding everything was great up to the meal, when the staff came out to serve , they looked terrible not one person looked the same, no uniform. one guy had a washed out meant to be black T-shirt,another guy had a shirt on tucked in the front hanging out the back not ironed, this is a wedding that someone has spent a lot of money on and the staff let it down big time was the topic of our table..Management need to buy polo shirts all the same colour so everyone is the same and all in black dress trousers not jeans and certainly not with rips ,and black shoes .But going with what the managements attire was they need to set a standard as well and maybe the staff then would take a bit pride in themselves.
