About us

The Shire Horse pub restaurant is a traditional country pub based near leafy Littlewick Green on the A4 Bath Road, just outside Maidenhead on the road to Reading. It's an attractive, 18th century building that used to be a coaching inn and we still offer a warm welcome to locals and travellers today. The Shire Horse pub has retained many of the buildings original features and unique character, such as low, timber-beamed ceilings and fireplaces, and there are lots of nooks and crannies where you can hide away. We offer an extensive menu of tasty traditional and seasonal dishes. Our satisfying Sunday lunches are always popular, plus we have weekly special food nights to offer you even more choice and value. So gather all the family together for a delicious meal in our traditional pub restaurant, or if the weather's fine, dine al fresco in our beer garden. Littlewick Green is a peaceful little village off the A4 Bath Road in between Maidenhead and Twyford. Set around a ‘v' shaped village green, it is an ancient settlement – ‘wick' being the Anglo Saxon for a market or trading place. Archeological digs have confirmed that a Roman Villa existed in Littlewick Green and records state that in 940 the village formed part of a parcel of land granted by King Edmund to one of his servants. Consequently, there are lots of architectural gems to be found here too, such as Foxleigh and Walnut Tree cottages, which date back to the 15th Century and are grade II listed buildings. It is also the location of Redroofs, the house where Ivor Novello lived, and where many of his most famous works were composed.

We had a post team Christmas work do today. Jay and his team were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble, even when we needed to make a few last minute meal changes. The team made us all feel so welcome. Everything was perfect, and timely, not rushed. The food was delicious, we will definitely be back - thank you Jay and team for such a lovely evening - from all at The Pines

A lovely, welcoming, and warm pub. Very busy Saturday lunchtime. Personally, for me, I thought the quality of the food vs. its price, left a lot to be desired. To start, I had the garlic mushrooms. Out came two small quarters of cold toast with a mashed up concoction of garlic and button mushrooms, not worth the £6.95 price tag. For the main, I went for the house burger with french fries. The fries were luke warm, and the burger was not what I expected an £18.95 burger would taste or look like. While I would probably return for drinks in the summer as it has a lovely outdoor area. I won't be ordering food again 😒

Absolutely amazing. My family and I visited for New Years Eve and we were served by Connor. The atmosphere here is outstanding, this is our first time visiting and we felt so welcomed as a family and comfortable throughout our dinner. I have never been somewhere with customer satisfaction as good as this. Everything was perfect, the service, food, cleanliness and even the little added touches to our table to celebrate the new year which was so lovely and thoughtful. You can clearly see how well the service is run and how well the team work together. Will definitely be returning and can’t wait to visit again in the near future.

Had a Xmas dinner with friends last night. There were 10 of us and we were served by lovely Immie. She served us with a constant smile and Christmas spirit. Food was generous and tasty. Service with a smile and the atmosphere was good. Very busy so we had a slow service with the drinks but understandable. The cheesecake was delicious and light. We were stuffed and satisfied. All in all a lovely evening.

HORRIBLE & DISGUSTING food, I found plastic in the burger. After telling this to a staff member nobody even came to check immediately. After several minutes a manager turned up telling she did not know how the plastic was in burger and refunded money for the burger. But she was not worried and acted as if it was not a big deal in spite of me telling her that this could have choked/killed someone. Chicken in another main dish was not cooked at all. This restaurant is ridiculously irresponsible and has do not care attitude. Please DO NOT PUT YOUR HEALTH AND LIFE AT RISK and also DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.
