Great pub - when not frequented by screaming children - with tons of character. We didn't eat here, as the food menu felt slightly limited and we didn't fancy anything on it, although the food did look good.
After a search for a bar to stop at before dinner (hence no food score ) we enjoyed a very comfy and frankly chill bar with good beers and a huge moment ,
Never been to Margate before and so glad we went to this pub for lunch for my dad's birthday. The actual pub is lovely inside and has a nice beer garden. The staff are so nice and the burgers were 10/10!
We were walking from Cliftonville to the town center when we noticed this little pub in the distance. It looked very atmospheric in the dark so we decided to give it a try. We were lucky to get a table in the pub at the back and tried a few cocktails that were all lovely. The decor was very stylish and the atmosphere positive. I was about to give this place a 5 star review but then We asked if we could book a table to eat there the following weekend... All that was available was a table at 6pm on the Saturday. I asked if we could get a table in the pub in the front area (that looked even more stylish) and we were told a request would be put for that. We booked a table for 2 people at 6pm. On the Friday, we received a phone call to confirm our booking on Saturday for 6 people at 2 pm. We told them it was for 2 people at 6pm. When we arrived on the Saturday the waitress gave us a table outside the pub at the back and said she thought it was for 6 people. It was already crowded at the time and even many tables outside the pub (without heaters at the end of October) on the side were already taken. I told the waiter I never agreed for an outside table so we were given a small one inside right by the back door. It then took some time to be able to order. We had to ask for someone to take our food order. The food was truly delicious but my husband’s portion was a bit small (he had chosen the vegetarian option). The house white wine was a decent one and very enjoyable. Overall it felt the place was a victim of its own success. We would have preferred to have our booking turned down right from the start as there was clearly no space available in the front area of the pub. Also, it would be good to have a proper drink menu so that we know what is available and how much things are. A bill/receipt was never offered nor brought to our table so we paid blindly. We are not sure we will go back now and anyway you might have to be either lucky or book well in advance to get a table. Disappointing.
Nice family pub with an brilliant old interior decoration, cosy atmosphere. With the new owner it's even better; for the new refurbishment they deserve 5 Stars and the sandwiches are so delicious (also 5 Stars), definitely worth a visit, so a must visit place for Margate.
