Outside space tends to come at a premium in the capital. Not so at The Rose & Crown, where you’re free to enjoy one of central London’s biggest beer gardens - complete with outdoor bar and a TV screen that’s perfect for a sunny summer of sport.
This is a pub for all seasons though, and inside, you’ll find a friendly, cosy atmosphere, traditional style and no little history either. The building, located in a part of Blackfriars once known as the Paris Garden (named in Shakespeare’s Henry VIII) is thought to date back to the late 1800s.
Things may have changed a little since then (we recently underwent an exciting refurb to bring modern style to our historic surroundings), but good old-fashioned service still reins here.
We serve up an excellent range of award-winning real ales, including Spitfire and Whitstable Bay Pale Ale, plus a selection of seasonal and guest ales. We are also known for our great pub food - ranging from light bites to something a little more substantial.
It all awaits south of the river, just a short stroll away from the South Bank, St Paul’s and London Bridge - and with the pub close to Blackfriars, it’s the perfect spot for commuters too.
We’ll look forward to seeing you soon. Don’t forget to bring the weather….

Pub itself was welcoming. Not busy considering it was a Friday evening. We ordered food - no pizza which was a surprise as nobody else was eating. Chicken burgers looked extremely well done and apparently the rolls were still part frozen. My beef burger turned up a short while later - bun was ok but the burger had been deep fried - tough around the edges and very dry throughout. Fish and chips were good apparently.
Lovely pub, staff is young but nice and friendly enough. Inside space is tiny, there are multiple floors I think but a very narrow building and extremely old and traditional (carpeted floors, etc). Garden area outside is so so nice, not very crowded when we arrived on a Friday night but can imagine it being otherwise! Food menu and beer tap are in line with pubs in the area as are the prices. The steak and ale pie was legit!! Came out covered in gravy yet somehow still perfectly crusty!
Neighbourhood Pub with big outdoor area. Fish &chips are tasty
Love going here for lunch with my colleagues, lovely pub with massive outdoor area. Nice pub grub too!
Decent beer and solid fish and chips. Crazy busy with new, undertrained staff but they did a good job all considering.
