Didn't stay, just called in for a meal on a blustery winters day. Good menu reasonably priced and Badger ales on tap. Great location on the sea front near the cliff railway.
Lovely christmas break for us and the doggies . Dont expect Hilton type pampering but they did us proud with a very relaxing few days . As A vegetarian I think the food selection could be more than just a butternut squash based meal but it was still very good . Would easily recommend.
The pros: Amazing sea view, warm room, powerful shower and great location. The walk up Watersmeet was amazing! The cons: The hotel is tired and needs some love. We were so excited to eat here, we were expecting fine dining as this was a treat for my fiancées birthday. But the food was overpriced, and not like the pictures on the website. When you spend this much money on food you should feel like you have had an unforgettable meal, unfortunately, it was unforgettable for all the wrong reasons. You can see the staff are trying hard, but it’s potentially time to change the menu to pub grub at normal prices, as that would have been a way better experience.
My wife and I visited to celebrate our wedding anniversary during a wonderful week in Porlock. This was not our first trip but certainly the best - an excellent lunch served in their smart but warm restaurant. I had the wild mushroom croquette followed by the Appledore whole plaice - both highly recommended as is the Duck Liver pate and the sunday lunch roast beef - which she loved. And here's the really lovely thing - we couldn't finish the cauliflower cheese - so the waiter gave us the skillet to take home. That was a tasty lunch the next day. Probably our 6th meal at the Rising Sun - and we are going back for lunch today - and before your ask, yes we are taking the skillet back!
Always feel welcomed here. Have stayed five times. Service is first class and the food is absolutely excellent. Just remember it's an old coaching Inn so rooms have to accommodate the structure of the building. They are still very comfortable and the views are amazing.
