About us

The Ribs of Beef pub in Norwich has been called ‘the City’s favourite local’ for good reason. This friendly city centre Free House offers one of Norwich’s tastiest pub food menus, up to 9 real ales and craft beers on cask (including 5 frequently changing Guest Ales) at any one time, regular live music, a pub quiz, sports on multiple screens (BT Sport), a riverside jetty and use of their free downstairs meeting room.

Roger and Anthea Cawdron have owned this historic pub on the banks of the River Wensum for over 30 years, and their warm and welcoming approach has earned The Ribs a strong following and a great reputation in Norwich.

On a sunny summer’s day, there is no better place to sit in the City, than on the riverside terrace or the triangle garden. Catching the afternoon sun, this is the ideal place to enjoy a cooling drink or read the daily papers.

In the winter, the main bar is warm and inviting and is even open on Christmas Day so that you can raise a cheer to the festive season.

As well as serving delicious pub food, the Ribs, which has Cask Marque status, has a great range of cask and keg beers, and 3 dedicated craft keg lines. The staff will be happy to let you have a taster to help you select the perfect ale for you or if you fancy trying something new. We also have an equally impressive selection of cask cider, draught lagers, craft bottles and cans, wine and champagne.

The Ribs is Dog Friendly (for friendly dogs! – dogs must be kept on a lead).

We do not accept entrance to children under 16 years of age after 6pm on Friday and Saturday or during our Band Nights on Sunday (typically 5pm to 8pm).

All under 18s must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

Very busy and full of Xmas spirit. Excellent beers and friendly service. Fantastic location by the river. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Norwich

Great pub in a really nice location by the river. Good selection of beer. Pizza menu looked very nice but we didn't have time to try one - maybe next time when we definitely visit again in the future.

Friendly city centre pub on the river. Good selection of real ales. Very loud live music on the Sunday evening we were there but otherwise a good pub for a beer and conversation.

We stumbled across this little gem after walking down the historic Elm Hill... A little dark alley brought us out onto a wooden balcony right on the River. We had entered via a back door so once inside it was a bit of a maze to find the bar.... Back through up the stairs and a lovely pub built over 2 levels right next to the bridge.... There are also tables outside at the e front of the pub Great choice of drinks Sitting next to the River was just lovely, so peaceful, just perfect

Friendly welcome and a comfortable environment. Decent range of beers at realistic prices, with some tempting bottles and cans as well. Not keen on allowing seating that blocks the view of the available beers (fortunately mostly a thing of the past), but the pub has the beer list on Untappd so that sufficed me. Didn't have food, but looked like some interesting options
