Approached from the villages of Stoke Row or Highmoor the pub is adjacent to the green and set near to woods in Witheridge Hill, with ample car parking the approach to the pub is via the garden.
Upon entering the pub noticeable features are the low beamed ceilings and two open fires with wooden boarded floors, the walls decorated in rich colours and informative chalk boards listing guest ales, wines and forthcoming events often including Outdoor Music Events.
Draught beers always include Brakspear's Ordinary and Oxford Gold as well as Wyld Wood Organic cider by the bottle. The considerable wine list includes Chablis, Domaine Christophe, Château Lalande, Haut Medoc and Laurent Perrier Champagne, many wines are available by the glass.
The thoughtfully decorated restaurant is divided into three sections with cosy tables, but also able to cater for larger parties as well.
The extensive menu always features seasonal food. Further dishes include Slow Cooked Belly of Pork, 8oz Ribeye Steak, Daily Fish Dish, Vegetarian Option and also a large snack and Tapas Menu, both served lunch and dinner.
Sunday Lunch is always popular at this pretty, country pub and booking is recommended.

Just had to say thank you to all the wonderful staff who served our Christmas Day lunch. It was perfect. Everything cooked perfectly and hot plates. Lovely atmosphere and friendly people to talk too. We could not believe how quick the time went, as a great idea to have time between courses, not thrown at you when you finish each course, or having to vacate the table to fit in the next sitting. Well done guys.
Lovely meal visited on the 6th November at lunchtime. Homemade chips were lovely and burger was one of the best I have had. The other 2 who were with me had gammon and said it was perfect. Would definitely recommend.
Excellent group meal for 8. Had to pre order, no problem. Wife enjoyed the option of small main course. Will go again hopefully soon. Nice to see an old fashion pub still as it was back in the day when so many are closing. We all need to support these pubs.
We just been there and had the best Sunday roost. Kate and John are such nice people, all the staff is really friendly, happy and welcoming. When you go there, and I highly recommend you do, order the brownie for dessert, it’s so delicious. Service is too and quick. Book a table in advance though as they do get busy on weekends. I’m definitely going there again. Very happy customer.
Lovely property with a beautiful, very well kept beer garden. The service is good, all the staff are attentive and very helpful. Food unfortunately wasn't anything to write home about so not the place if you're looking for a gourmet meal but fine just for a casual, no fuss meal out.
