At Smitty's we put the music first. That doesn’t mean we don’t make killer drinks too. We have a unique selection of cocktails which we infuse in-house, as well as a healthy list of stirred classics.
A rotating cast of beer and a concise wine list make up the rest of our back bar.
Off Broadway opened its doors on December 6th 2008. Based on an old, sadly long-since gone, hangout of mine in Alphabet City, NY – Mickey’s Blue Room. Over a decade years later and unable to buy a decent drink in Hackney, I opened this neighbourhood (that’s with a ‘u’) bar in the old art gallery and cinema we ran in the 2000s.
That’s fourteen years ago now and a lot has changed: more kids, less hair and cocktails on every corner. But OB is still the only long US- style bar on the street and we’ve lived here for over 50 years now, since the cobbbles and outside loos. It’s a family affair and three generations are involved in the fetching and carrying.
All the staff who work here are turned on with a desire to serve you a great drink. Ask them for any drink and they’ll do our best to make it from our formidable back-bar. And remember – here it’s your drink served your way. We don’t judge, well not that much…

Bustling, right off Broadway Market. Eclectic mix of customers and very good Martinis.
Lovely night of comedy in this bar. Drinks were great and the atmospheres was fantastic.
Decent bar on Broadway Market. Surprisingly not busy on Saturday during the market - reasonable range of beers. Don't think they have cask beer but they bill as a "cocktail bar" so maybe that's why. Pleasant staff. Great place to drink and watch the market. I assume it's a busy bar in the evening.
One of my favourite spots in Broadway market. Good beer and cocktails, and delicious cheese toasties. Good vibes, and I love the outdoor tables for people watching. The espresso martinis are top.
Good casual spot for a drink and a cheese toastie. They have a beer garden in the back that is also nice on sunny days. Had the cheese and tuna melt and highly recommend - have had their cocktails in the past too and they are decent too. Service was quick but was not welcoming - potentially explained by the fact that it was busy but other shops in the street still found it in them to be nice :) only improvement point as otherwise it’s a great spot.
