Nepal, the land of the mystifying Himalayas, mysterious ‘Yeti’ and home of legendary ‘Gurkha Soldiers’ is blessed with scenic splendour and natural beauty. Though relatively small in size, Nepal is rich in ethnic diversity and cultural heritage. It is home to many tribal races, living in different regions with their own unique culture, traditional customs, language and dialects. As a result, the taste of Nepalese cuisine differs from region to region within the country. However, the common factors are the use of fresh herbs and spices - many of which are unique to Nepali cooking and are prepared in the “Khal” (stone mortar), rather than the powders used in other Asian Cuisines. The heart of a Nepali meal is “Dal Bhat” (lentils and rice) and Achar (chutney) surrounded by other main and side dishes, thus achieving the ultimate meal. Since Nepal is situated between India in the south and China in the north, you will find a blend of both oriental and Indian flavour in our cuisine. Bearing this in mind, The New Gurkha Inn presents you with a selection of our regional dishes which are carefully blended to give you the authentic taste of Nepalese Cuisine. In order to retain original flavour, we use fresh herbs and spices. Had my little Maltese with me. Absolutely no problem accommodating me in the small area at the front. Ordered the gurkha curry madras style and was not disappointed. Absolutely stunning, will venture back again soon.
We are currently staying here 😀 The staff are fabulous it is a quiet B n B in beautiful surroundings in Brecon Beacons will definitely be back. They serve traditional foods from Nepal as you would expect it is excellent. Will definitely come back
Very friendly welcome. Room is a nice sized twin overlooking the road. The basics are there for you. Clean towels, bedding ,tea ,coffee making and a bottle of water,with cups and glasses. Nice TV, free WiFi. There were a small sachet of shower gel and soap tablet supplied. Our room had a small walk in shower. The extractor fan is a tad noisy. The stairs are steep . I would recommend this place for hikers, backpackers, cyclists etc. The restaurant is cosy, with a nice atmosphere. The staff throughout are very friendly and efficient. The food we were served was succulent and tasty. Very nicely prepared and served. Our first taste of Nepalese quisine and it was memorable. There is a very limited drinks selection available. A small free carpark, the location in the Brecon Beacons are bonuses. Children are welcome. I would certainly dine again here. The restaurant is busy so prebooking is advisable.
Friendly attentive staff. The food was a cut above any type of Indian based cuisine. The fusion of flavours was incredible. The room was comfortable and well presented. Would definitely stay again. The location is great for visiting Brecon and the surrounding areas.
Went to the restaurant twice as the first time was so lovely. Served on both occasions by Gavin, who was on the ball, professional and friendly. The food was absolutely gorgeous, hence our second visit whilst on our week's holiday. I can't comment on the accommodation as we were staying in a local cottage, but please go and enjoy the food you won't be disappointed. Thanks, Gavin, for the great service.
