The Navigation remains the only cask ale pub on Lancashire Hill. It was built to service the workers from the flourmill next door (Nelstrops) and the bargees on the nearby now closed and filled-in canal who finished their journey with a well earned pint. The central bar services both the lounge in which daily newspapers are provided and the smaller vault which has a pool table. The outside drinking area to the rear is invitingly entitled the Bear Garden. Now located on the busy roundabout at the head of Lancashire Hill, this local Pub of the Year 2003. For some years, until the mid-2010s it was Congleton brewer, Beartown Brewery’s only pub in Stockport.
A bit rundown, smelly, old, cold, and depressing — however, it seems to be under new management so hopefully it’ll take a turn for the better in the long run 🤞🏻 Either way, it’s still a marked improvement from the Grapes nearby
Decent beers had abit of a fishy smell but the landlord had top banter and some decent talent in there
Called in for the Mild Challenge, and a nice choice of Beartown beers were on offer, which was a pleasant surprise outside of Congleton . Very traditional pub,and as my better half informed me,it was once run by Alex Stepney-a great English and United footballer.
A locals pub, homely with an unexpected outdoor area out the back. Great stop off after a lengthy walk around stockport centre. Never been in before despite living in the area for more than 10years, had to ring the bell and the landlord let us in Great atmosphere sports available on screens, darts board and pool table in there too. I would like to go back there.
Good value, warm surroundings, and great beer selection from Congleton brewer, Beartown. Licencees have been in place for ten years now. Multi roomed, and with beer garden to rear. Good place.
