About us

Mark & Sue welcome you to The Navigation Inn, a popular watering hole for Huddersfield canal

boaters and walkers. This is a family run business, established in February 2004, originating from

the local village of Greenfield.

Next to the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, this stone pub was built in 1806 to slake the thirst of

navvies cutting the Standedge Tunnel. It comprises a open-plan bar with three hand pumps and

an L-shaped interior.

A venue for the popular Saddleworth Rushcart Festival in August. Dog friendly (please mention if

booking a table) and families welcome at all times.

All our dishes are home made and freshly prepared for each order. Our aim is to provide quality

food and a good service in a relaxed atmosphere by our friendly team of staff, but we do ask you

to bear with us at busy times.

Sometimes it is difficult to answer the telephone during food service therefore we have introduced

an online booking system (it’s very easy) also if it’s for making a booking you can leave your

name and number on the answering machine and we will get back to you (for anything else please

ring later) hopefully making things easier, For bookings of 8 people and over please ring the pub

to book, but should you struggle booking a table online for the date & time you wish give us a

quick call as we may be able to move tables and bookings around and may have a table free

around the time you wish to book.

If you have a food allergy or a special dietary requirement please mention it to one of our staff

who will inform the kitchen.

Whilst you’re here, why not take advantage of our free Wi-Fi :-

Network - The Navigation.

I cannot fault this Inn! Having wanted to visit the Navi for a few years after visiting the area. I finally got around to it this weekend. What a treat! The Inn is very welcoming and cosy as soon as you walk in and has been finished to a high standard. However, the true gem in the crown is the food! A great selection to meet any requirements and a fantastic list of specials! All the food was delicious, and I would highly recommend it to all!

This used to be our favourite ‘go to’ place always reliable for quality of food, service atmosphere. However we went last night (usually you can’t get a table) the prices are a little eye watering!! Scampi and chips £18, fish and chips 15 ( my husband was nt keen on the fish) £16 for ox cheek which just came in a large amount of gravy with chopped carrots. Nearly all the traditional dishes were around £12.95.

Best pub food in Saddleworth (or even Manchester) Every dish was packed with flavor and the ambiance encapsulated the true essence of a traditional pub. A must-visit for both locals and visitors!
