The Lord Nelson
Also affectionately known as The Nelson
This historic pub has undergone many changes during its long life. Now, with us, Tom and Josie, as the new landlords at the helm, our vision is to return to its traditional roots as a good old fashioned traditional pub!
That said, we do plan to make some changes – a fresh new menu, a more expansive selection of wines and beers, including guest beers from smaller independent breweries. Plus, we want to bring back a pub quiz and other events such as an acoustic open mic night. We also plan to slowly and sympathetically restore the building’s fabric, furniture, and fixtures and are already making some initial changes that we hope you will like. Hopefully, when all is finished, we will be the country pub in the heart of the town and community.
In keeping with traditional pubs, we have our open fires on through the colder months, perfect to finish that walk with the dog and relax with a pint of quality ale. The pub has a small snug bar suitable for groups of 12-20, and it does get booked quickly, so please don’t delay. Our courtyard garden is a real sun trap offering a sheltered space to relax late into the evening during the summer.
We thank you for your support through this period. We look forward to getting to know customers old and new and sharing a pint or two along the way!.

Cozy, warm & welcoming pub. The food was delicious & piping hot. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit
Had a Christmas meal here today and could not have been more disappointed. The turkey main was stone cold and very little flavour, with burnt sprouts. I hadn't eaten all day and didn't want to waste food but it was a real let down. The brownie desert was nice though ice cream was fairly melted when it arrived. Servers were very friendly and accommodating. Just a shame the food was terrible
Cosy old low-ceiling pub with fires. Locals have cottoned-on to the great Sunday roasts here, and I recommend. Been here twice, and enjoyed both. Service was on par with a fully-fledged restaurant, and the roast was excellent.
Excellent locals pub near the dock area. Good limited menu.choice of ale's. Outside seating. Friendly staff.
Called here last Sunday afternoon and received a warm welcome. The Ghost Ship was in good fettle but it is served via tap on a wood keg, not hand pulled, so you don't get a good head all the way down like we Northerners like! The chili beef nachos and Sunday roast pork dinner were very good indeed. Log burners in traditional surroundings make for an enjoyable cold winter afternoon. The staff here deserve a special mention and they also took care of our dog. Highly recommended.
