About us

In the shell of a derelict pub with a dark history in the heart of Leith, Edinburgh, ‘The Lioness of Leith’ opened as a bar/bistro in December 2013.

An instant hit with locals, we were proudly voted ‘Leith’s Best Bar‘ in the first year of trading.

‘Burger Mama’ was born in early 2018 out of the passion to deliver a real ‘gourmet’ burger menu to the community.

WHY ARE WE GOURMET?

Our beef and chicken are sourced from the award winning local butcher, Findlay’s of Portobello. Our artisan buns are sourced and baked within a few hundred yards. We have a real passion to cater for our meat eating, vegetarian and vegan diners alike.

To compliment our menu we offer premium local and international drinks. With our inventive and evolving, seasonal, cocktails list, including innovative alcohol-free options, award winning teas and coffee, you can be sure of quality, great taste – and local sourcing whenever possible.

Our main menu is available from 4pm Monday – Thursday, and from noon Friday – Sunday.

We strive to be a favourite whether you’re a Leither, or a visitor just passing through.

A ramp is available on request for wheelchair access.

The Lioness of Leith is one of the best pubs for a pint in Leith and the go-to destination when in the area. It offers a great selection of beers and spirits, along with a very relaxing atmosphere. Regarding the food, there is room for improvement. Despite the good quality of the ingredients, especially for a pub, the final outcome tastes rather average, and the cooking execution leaves something to be desired. I found my burger to be very dry. The nachos, on the other hand, were good with nothing particularly noteworthy. In general, the reviews of the food at our table were mixed, so it's definitely worth a visit to form your own opinion. This pub comes highly recommended in the area and in Edinburgh as a whole.

Whilst visiting Leith, we had our evening meal here. It's a burger place that suited my husband, but I struggled with it. I did have chicken in a basket, which was good. And the pile of onion rings we got was enormous, just slightly too much. The selection of drinks was good. I always like a pub which offers real ales.

Welcoming ‘Lioness’ staff at the pub, good local beers and food. Dining area filled with happy families, couples and solos as the evening went on.

Service was top notch and the food and atmosphere were on point as well. We loved our time here. It’s a great place to hang out and have a brew.

The Lioness of Leith just became my favourite burger place in Scotland. The burgers are outstanding. The meat patti itself tastes great and is of good quality and there are a good selection of burgers of various toppings to choose from. Everyting was cooked fresh, the chips were great and the portions sizes big. We chose a single portion of chips betweens us which was perfect with the size of the burger... they are big. Service was great and the right amount of attentive. I did however visit on a Sunday afternoon so I can't say what the service is like at a busier time. For me it gets 5 stars for atmosphere because for a Sunday afternoon it was about three quarters full and very chill and relaxed with good music in the background at low volume so you could have great conversations. The decor is eclectic and really suits what was obviously once an old pub but it's well and truly had new life breathed into it. Again I can't say what it's like when it's busy but then again my expectation would be different on say a Friday night. If you are looking for awesome burgers I would highly recommend.
