The Islingword is a hidden gem, perched up above Brighton city centre, next to Queen’s Park. It’s a fantastic local pub with traditional pub values and a friendly atmosphere.
A vast array of entertainment is on offer here, including a pool table, oodles of board games and free Wi-Fi. All the larger sporting events are shown across two screens. Look out for Happy Hours six days a week.
If you are one of Brighton’s many students, you’ll be pleased to hear that Happy Hour prices are available all day, and free games of pool are available from Monday to Thursday.

Lovely local pub since it reopened.Have lived just a few doors from this pub for almost 40 years and never really liked it much before but can now say that it is the best it’s ever been.Currently only get chance for a couple of beers on a Friday afternoon as I am a full time carer for my elderly father and can’t leave him alone very long, especially evenings, but look forward to my Friday couple of pints here.A friend joins me when they are not working.Friendly staff, great atmosphere, lovely beer garden.Good selection of beers and love the Inch’s cider! Have yet to try the burgers but have heard they are excellent.Would definitely be in more often if I was able to.
Nice pub Round the corner from me. They do pizza from pizza face, great pizza but wish they’d do their own. Lovely wine and good service
This pub is away from the hustle and bustle of the city and caters for the local residents. The beer is reasonably priced and pizzas are on offer during the week. On sundays during the winter there are a variety of roasts available and in the summer months there is a barbacue in the garden. All Sky sports are on the big screen and a smaller large screen tv is at the other end of the bar. The staff are helpful and friendly and no I neither work there or have any connection to the management .It is my local.
It’s odd that I’ve only given the food here four stars and everything else five stars, because the food was outstanding. I had the Jerk Chicken burger and it was amazing, so many flavours going on. My wife’s vegan burger was great as well, it would be good for the burgers to be vegetarian as an option. My wife is veggie not vegan, she doesn’t want to have vegan mayo and cheeeeze. So why four stars? Simple, the accompanying fries were cold. Loved the atmosphere in the pub, staff were friendly and helpful. No real ales available which was disappointing and I think there could be better transparency on beer prices. Nearly thirteen quid for two pints ( one being Kronenburg) came as a bit of a shock. We will definitely be back and I will make sure I request hot fries.
Fantastic beer, lovely staff! Unfortunately the Food is overpriced and underwhelming, especially when ranked along side the other options in the area. Won’t be eating again but will definitely be back for the beer.
