Step back into the 1920's and visit our recently restored and renovated Howard Arms, there is nothing like it in the city! Great homemade food, cask ales and a great beer garden - we love well behaved 4 legged friends too!
We have brought alive a unique period of pub history with our sympathetically restored and beautiful Grade II listed building. Stepping into The Howard Arms is now like stepping back into the early days of state managed pubs; the furniture is 1920’s, state management bric a brac and memorabilia provide decoration and our staff wear collarless shirts, braces and flat caps.
Our menu offers traditional home cooked British food like spam fritters, mince and dumplings and treacle sponge. We’ve taken The Howard Arms back to the 1920s but we’re also serving modern ‘essentials’ like Prosecco and barista-quality coffee
Our activities have a 1920s bent too, with games such as cribbage and skittles, a piano for sing-alongs and quoits and Aunt Sally in the garden.

Really lovely, friendly staff. Lovely inside. Had the Sunday roast, and we had plenty, and the meat was very tender. My daughter had the vegetarian option, which was a sweet potato roulade. A nice twist on the vegetarian option, even though it was a bit too sweet. Shame she couldn't have the pigs in blankets or the stuffing, as there were no substitutes. Amazing price for the amount and quality.
A really homely vibe to this quirky pub (which is also dog friendly 👍). We were made to feel very welcome by Ethan and team. A great choice of food - totally recommend the macaroni, cheese with chorizo. Nice beer garden too. The milk churn stool is fabulous!❤️.
Very impressed with this quirky little pub. Immaculately clean and a nice range of drinks. We didn't eat there, but plenty of people were eating and the food looked lovely.
Had the mixed meat roast, generous portions and friendly staff. Best bitter was good too!
Found this one by Google search. The outside is of a typical pub facade that was the fashion many years ago. Dont be put off by it appearance from the outside because it serves some brilliant meals in what is a tardis once inside. Has a one way system around the inside that works really well for these covid times we live in. Will say the chips were the best that I have tasted for as long as I came remember. Crisp on the outside and lovely soft fluffy inside. Of the meals we had nothing when to waste and there was plenty of it.
