I stayed here over New Year in a campervan we'd brought. We were able to plug in for electricity. It was right beside the bins unfortunately. The owners were very welcoming. The food was ordinary but well presented and tasty. I was sorry not to have haggis and neeps! We had a lovely afternoon on the 31st when lots of excellent musicians were in the bar. Most people joined in in some form and another. The surroundings of the pub are gorgeous and the dog was very welcome. Plenty of walks in the area too. I would definitely visit again
Reading previouse reviews I had hi hopes for a lovely bar meal, unfortunatly we were so disappointed. It began with a 20-minute wait before we ad to asked if someone would take our order. The pie of the day had sold out but was still on the boards and remained on the boards. Others asked for the pie, too. I opted for Mac'n' cheese. Oh, what a mistake. Melted cheese on dry pasta was not pleasant. It's a vad say when the side salad and chips out shone the main part of the meal. A table near us had 3 attempts to get their meal right. We waited so long for someone to pass to take a drinks order we fave up and my husband went to the bar himself. We didn't stay around to sample any desserts. Barking dogs of the property was also another issue.
Keeping it short. Everything was fantastic fabulous food just what you need. only been twice can't wait to go back. The service was excellent. But the hole stay was made special by dawn's lovely manner that makes you feel special. Thanks to everyone at the horse and hounds.
Based on google reviews, we were considering booking a family meal at the restaurant and stopped by mid-afternoon for drinks with our children. We were welcomed by a very polite man who directed us to the beer garden (with plenty of wasps, bees and other insects) as our children aged 12, 11 and 5 were not welcome on the premises. I noticed that a couple were permitted in the bar with their dog however! It’s a shame that the management of this establishment are more tolerant of animals than they are of families. Sufficed to say that we couldn’t dine where dogs receive more hospitality than families. Such a shame!
very nice en-suite room. great rest. super friendly, super service. we ate several times during our 5 night stay, breakfast and supper, food was always very good to excellent. I had to ask for less food on my plate, could not eat it all, i hate to waste.
