The Horse and Groom is a traditional Coaching Inn set in the lovely village of Newthorpe, near Nottingham. It retains many original features such as open fires and oak beams. These, combined with the comfort and convenience of modern facilities, a winning combination of traditional hearty food, friendly staff, and great service, make the Horse and Groom a firm favourite with locals and travellers alike. There is a large garden for dining outside in the warmer months. Located only eight miles from Nottingham, the Inn offers a great location for conferences and other receptions or parties. The Stables function room is situated on the 1st floor.
There is a reason this place is so busy because the food is simply amazing. Service was a little on the slow side but when your bar and every table is full the speed was still pretty impressive. I ordered the steak sandwich which was beautifully presented and a dish to die for. I asked for it medium rare it it was closer to medium however still very tender and well prepared. For the price it is it felt like a steal. Would 100% go back again.
Excellent friendly staff. Great range of guest beers on tap. Brain Clough beer from Castle Rock is a Pilsner-style pale ale which was one of the guest beers on tap. Lots of seating outside and a large car park to the rear of the pub. Dog friendly. Lots of good walking routes including Moorgreen Reservoir nearby.
Lovely pub. It was great to take the dogs and sit out in the sunshine. Shame about the food, though. Stale bread with the prawn cocktail. Salmon was not grilled and looks nothing like the pic on the menu.
Great pub, 2nd visit, this time for my father-in-laws 75th birthday, excellent food and drinks, great atmosphere also. Nicole, our waitress was awesome, great service and friendly personality especially with us giving her funny abuse all night. Would definitely recommend for food and drinks.
I have been here many times for meals over the years, and it's has always been very good. Recently, I had the Sunday roast for the first time. The meat was cooked perfectly to how I like it (pink), the Yorkshire puds, roasties, and mash were very nice. The only thing that let it down were the beans. They were pretty raw. However, the pub was extremely busy, so allowances can be made. I've been in the week for dinner mostly, everything has been faultless that i have had. The pub has a great layout and a lovely atmosphere. Staff are always polite and helpful, and the bar always had a great selection of drinks.
