A silver award-winner in the recent North East England Tourism Awards, The Hog’s Head Inn in Alnwick is named after the tavern in the Harry Potter books and films. The Hog’s Head Inn is a few minutes’ drive from Alnwick Castle, which doubled as Hogwarts in the first two boy-wizard films – and also as Brancaster Castle in Downton Abbey.
The Hog’s Head Inn is perfectly placed to explore the world-famous Alnwick Garden, Northumberland coast, its castles and the stunning scenery of England’s most northerly county. If you’re looking for accommodation in Northumberland that’s great value for money, offers a more laid back approach than a hotel and better service than simply self-catering, look no further than The Hog’s Head Inn.
With its 53 spacious en-suite bedrooms, The Hog’s Head is ideal for families and larger groups looking to stay together in Northumberland. Children will love the new ‘Hogshead Castle’ play area while you relax and enjoy the pub’s outstanding food. A mecca for meat lovers, look out for the speciality steak range, all cooked to absolute perfection.

Lovely large rooms, very clean and comfortable. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Food was very tasty and good quality. And all was dog friendly!
Visited for the first time over Christmas. Like all the other pubs owned by The Inn Collection, it is dog friendly. Food and service is excellent and the pub is warm, inviting and looked beautiful with its Christmas decorations. Large car park so easy to park close by.
Staying away due to work I thought the location was perfect. The check in staff were very welcoming and friendly, as was the bar/waiting staff. The food was amazing, complements to the chef. great seasonal dish of pheasant, very well cooked and well thought out dish. The room is very spacious, clean and quite. All the above was just what I needed after a long day at work. Next time I'm working in the area I'll definitely stay hear again.
Big warm clean room. A bit noisy as our room overlooked the A1 (disappointing at £148 per night). Not impressed with the checking in staff (ignored us for a while whilst they had a discussion, then proceeded to give me various instructions at 100mph). The check out chap was very pleasant, as were the staff at the bar and restaurant. Food … hmmm … it tasted like microwaved food (the chips were truly awful) and for that reason it was overpriced. Neither of us enjoyed our evening meal. Breakfast was better - lots of choice, although the full English from the buffet was warm rather than hot. Convenient for A1 …. but sadly we won’t return.
One of our favourite pubs. Lovely food, great service and the rooms spotlessly clean. The location is on a business park just off the A1 but a great place for a totally relaxing short break. Alnwick is just a few minutes drive away.

Welcome to the Plough Alnwick. Enjoy total relaxation in a beautiful coaching inn that has a history dating back to 1896. We’ve lovingly restored the building to create a modern take on the traditional coaching inn and hunting lodge décor.
