About us

The Highwayman Inn lies in the tiny hamlet of Exlade Street, nestled in the Chiltern hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Formerly called The Greyhound, it dates back from the 16th century. The hamlet used to be larger, but it is known that two houses burnt down in the early part of last century. The Exlade Street blacksmith’s forge previously stood in the car park of the Highwayman Inn and several large barns existed for the storage and working of wood from the local area.

The Highwayman Inn is a warm welcoming pub. Madalin and his team of fantastic chefs deliver a passion for simple yet delicious homemade food matched by attentive friendly service with roaring fires and a relaxed atmosphere with or without your four legged friend.

The Turpin room, our private dining area is capable of holding up to 50 guests, with the option of exclusively hiring out the whole pub for up to 100.

Canapés, sit down three course menus or buffets, whatever your requirement. Give Lou a call for a chat.

With three great local ales and a range of international lagers our cosy bar is perfect for a break in cycling or walking exploring the local bridle ways and footpaths.

Big, hearty lunch of rack of lamb that rendered me unable to do much for a couple of hours except snooze contentedly. Birthday treat. Dauphinoise potato was particularly tasty.

Visited The Highwayman Inn today for lunch with my wife and two friends. It was my first visit and I was very impressed. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The food we had was home cooked, extremely tasty and reasonably priced. Overall our visit was really enjoyable and we will be returning.

Great gastropub to relax and enjoy a nice meal. We have tried their vegetarian options and they were great. Very friendly to our dog as well.

What a find !! Visited this pub as was in the area and I was not disappointed, The service was top notch, the food and wine was superb, dog friendly and overall a great experience, For starters we had the goats cheese bon bons and the Romanian meatball soup, both very tasty! For main meals the Bubble and Squeak and the Venison, again absolutely delicious and good portion size, For pudding we shared a Bakewell tart with custard and a hot chocolate, If you're in the area this place is a must visit.
