Traditional Local, very family orientated filled with lots of entertainment with live bands, dj's, karaoke and much more!
Built in 1623 as the Oxford Arms, the name changed to Golden Lion in 1722. This period saw the dawn of the 'Coaching Era' and the yard at the rear of the pub was the departure point for Winsen Red Wing Coaches. The bell to summon passengers for departure can still be seen, high up on the wall. Today the yard is a sheltered patio garden, with bench seating. The interior retains its charm, with timber beamed ceilings, part panelled walls and a large fireplace, now with a woodburner. Modernity has arrived in the form of a pool table and a dartboard.
Nice local pub. Music was too loud, but people were friendly.
A nice building, with some outside seating, a single ale available, does decent food, lacks real quality to put it to the next level.
Great atmosphere, live music on Friday was brilliant.
Have been drinking in this pub for many years now and i cant remember a time where ive had a bad experience. My family and I have always felt welcome by the staff and theres always a good level of banter as well as professionalism from each member behind the bar that keeps the atmosphere of the pub enjoyable. In my opinion the pub is one of, if not the best pub within the town in terms of having a relaxed but enjoyable environment for everyone. Families with children have always been welcome as well which is great and the staff go above and beyond to keep the pub a fun place for everyone.
I've never ever felt so unwelcome in a local pub than this in my life ... The clientel in this place is lovely it's just specific staff that seem to have issues with people having any form of laugh ...I bought a 50 pound round and bought the bar man a drink it was the start of his shift ..two minutes later he approached our group outside and said we are being too loud five mins later we attempted to get another round and were refused .. had two previous drinks so was not enough to justify the no serving ... Mad how pubs can refuse custom these days with sobar people because the bar man is a sad act ...I'm sure they need the money ... absolute joke of a pub
