The Fox & Hounds occupies a prime position on Main Road, which runs through the heart of the village and is popular with both locals and visitors. It's close to riverside walks and country trails surrounding the village are popular for cyclists, runners a
There's an open plan public bar, with large screen TV for sports, along with games machines and a darts area. On the other side of the bar is a comfortable and well-appointed lounge and a dining area featuring stone wall and wood beams. A good range of wholesome food is served and special "Owd Codgers" meals are served from noon -5pm every day except Weds, Sat and Sun. Watch out for the ice cream fridge in the dining area.
The number of handpulls has been increased from two to three. It is a real community pub with two cricket teams, a dominoes team, a leek club, amateur dramatics society, a football team and bellringers. Live music may be encountered at weekends in the evening.
Ordered 4 meals, very good portions and very much "pub" food, nothing super fancy. All tasted good, also vegetarian options... Great service, friendly staff
Friendly Inn with good drinks and food. Some tables outside and you can enjoy a long evening sun at the terrace.
Liked it a very pleasant and enjoyable π way to end what had been a brilliant walk. From Newburn to Wylam. That I just did on my own. The forecast was not the best, but it was a wonderful day sunny and warm.π« ππ₯΅π I had a mince and onion pie with chips, garden peas, and gravy. Also, 2 pints of Wainwright Delish and delightful!!!!!!!!! A very enjoyable visit. ππππππ π€£ππππ« πππβΊοΈπ₯²ππ€π€ππ€©
Booked an evening meal for Royal British Legion Riders, 25 of us. Meal was excellent and staff bent over backwards to accommodate us. I can't recommend this place enough. Thanks to all staff
choice of meal- mince and dumplings with mashed potato , and a steak and ale pie ( in a dish) with a filo pastry topping. Big portions and very reasonable prices. Was disappointing however. More gravy than steak in the pie. Very salty due to gravy being thickened up with gravy salt. Vegetables tasteless. Couldn't eat the pastry lid as it just fell to pieces on touch. Dumpling very poor with unusual taste and texture. Overall, this pub isn't going to win any awards for its cooking. The service from the barperson was good and there were several customers with dogs so testifying to previous posts about being dog friendly.
