About us

On 16th March 2024 the Drewe Arms opened it's doors again but this time as as a Community Pub. The pub had closed in 2022 until a group of locals came together to launch a fundraising campaign to re-open it.

The campaign turned out to be a huge success, raising over 550k in just six weeks. Under PubCo ownership it never fulfilled its true potential. Now, as a community pub, we're going to make it the special place it deserves to be.

We put huge emphasis on quality. The menu is short, but the food will always be fresh and delicious – sourcing food from local suppliers wherever possible, and always working with the seasons.

We love our beer and we won’t settle for anything than a selection of beer, lager and cider that is local, fresh and delicious. As a freehouse we're regularly changing the line up so be sure to swing by regularly to see what's new and on tap. You can always try before you buy!

We're undertaking a major refurb of the kitchen. We hope to be serving food from the end of March.

Accommodation is also a big part of our future plans. Once we establish the core functions of the pub we'll be turning our attention to this.

The pub will become a hub for the community, hosting parties, gigs, and classes from pilates to performing arts. We're be putting a lot of effort into developing this offer once we have the doors open and pub is running smoothly.

First Time Visitors

If you’re visiting the Drewe Arms for the first time you’re in for a treat. Arriving at the Drewe on a fine day, you may see people sitting outside in the square, enjoying a drink in the sunshine. Going through the front door is like walking into the home of an old friend. There is no conventional bar which is, at first, a little mystifying.

There are small rooms left and right with a fireplace, built-in benches and antique tables. It is a cosy yet public space. You will soon be in conversation with others in the room. You order your drinks through a little hatch through to the tap room and ale is poured from the cask. Its joy is in its simplicity.

We’d like to welcome you to the Drewe Arms Community Pub very soon.

The pub is closed and up for sale sadly. Looks nice from the outside and right next to the church.

I came upon this pub by pure chance on a trip to study Edwin lutyens architectural masterpiece Castle Drogo. This pub was the cherry on the top of the cake. About 400 years old and unspoilt interior an absolute gem serving top quality cask conditioned real ale. Perhaps it's because it's Off the Beaten Track that this pub has managed to survive so well. Any lovers of Real Ale and historic pubs needs to visit this place. Definitely in my top 10 favourite pubs in England.

Good authentic pub, good beers, food looked good too. A warm welcome, first class service. Shame we weren't there for long. Lovely history inside about the oldest Landlady. I recommend stopping for a drink. Beautastic!
