A friendly, family welcome from the staff, locals and customers of the pub is extended to all who visit The Square and Compass. Undoubtedly a true gem in the heart of Dorset.
Award winning beers and ciders including home pressed traditional cider made by the owner, are the perfect accompaniment to a traditional hot pasty or pie.
Live music is also served up on a regular basis with bands and artists playing at the pub on evenings and Sunday afternoons through out the year.

This unique and fabulous pub never ceases to please whatever the weather whatever time of the year. The staff are fabulous and the variety of drinks available should satisfy everyone. Views are amazing and the interior including the museum are perfectly unique.
A well-known pub with locals, tourists, walkers, cyclists, and everyone else in between! The bar area is slightly different in that you have to queue in single file to be served, and most of the seating is outdoors. Thus is a good thing because the views are incredible at the front. There is a back garden which is a bit more rustic. All of the beer barrels are on display behind the small bar area, and the food is homemade and tasty. Being on the jurassic coast, there is also a fossil room with a display of local and not so local fossils and finds.
Quite possibly the best pub in the universe. I haven’t tried them all yet. Research continues, but this is currently number 1. Ridiculously amazing views, atmospheric inside and out. Great food, drink and staff. Not surprisingly we had to queue but even that was a delight.
Just the most original and unusual pub I have ever visited in a quite astonishing place. It starts with the bar, well there isn't one! Just a square hole in the wall. See pics. Don't let that put you off though, the service is fast and friendly. You can take a seat outside and take in the beautiful views or have a seat in the fossil collection. This pub has a unique and special vibe. I could imagine Augustus John enjoying a drink here. A very special place indeed.
Yet another (re)visit to one of my absolute favourite countryside pubs. Stunning views of the rolling Dorset Downs with sea in the distance. Plenty of parking in the village facility, 250 metres to the north/west, with honesty payment. Comprehensive range of beer/lager/cider. Excellent pies/pasties. Large garden. A busy summer Saturday evening which the staff were coping with admirably, using both serving ‘hatches’!🥳 Eclectic crowd!! A bikers’ (pedal and motor) and hikers’ heaven. Atmosphere you can cut with a smuggler’s cutlass!! 🏴☠️ 🏴☠️
