The Dorset is one of Harvey & Son’s oldest pubs, built in 1670 on the site of an illegal workhouse, and is about 100 steps from the famous Bridge Wharf brewery. Parts of the original building still form areas of the pub today.
We're located under the famous 'Cliffe' at the lower end of Lewes town centre, close to the South Downs Way and just a stones throw from Brighton. With lots of room it's a great family pub, walkers are welcome and if you're a cyclist we've always got somewhere to store your bike. We have 6 ensuite bedrooms, all are comfortable and good value, with free WiFi, a TV and a late night security card entrance. Book your room today.
Head Chef Michael Bennett and his team create delicious pub classics using local suppliers and there's definitely something for everyone. Sandwiches, great veggie and vegan options, child portions of all our main meals and our function menus.
We serve food Monday to Friday, 12-3pm, 6-9pm, Saturday from 11am - 9pm and on Sundays we add traditional roast dinners and serve between 12pm-4pm.

Popped in for a quick Sunday pint after a walk on the South Downs. Easy to park, Lovely cosy Pub, had a fire place, sofas, tables, Guinness 0% which was surprisingly tasty for the designated driver, Harvey's obviously. The food menu looked tasty and we will be back.
Situated in the picturesque village of Lewis. With a roaring log fire. What's not to love. I didn't try the food but it looked amazing 😍
A nice old pub in historic Lewes. We came for lunch. Good friendly service and great food. A good selection of drinks. Also a nice outside area for the summer.
Staff were very friendly, dogs are welcome, place is kept clean, spacious so dont feel crammed in, beautiful open fire but only if you get their first can you sit close. There's another fire in the back, but unfortunately, it is not operational.
We were looking for an inexpensive hotel close to Lewes centre where we were attending a wedding. Finding space in the car park opposite can be challenging, especially when parking's free, on Sundays. Staff really friendly and very helpful. Our room was small but perfectly formed, with en suite shower room. Really close to the centre of Lewes and a comfortable 10 minute walk back from the wedding venue. Comfy bed, great sleep and a really good continental breakfast the next morning. We'd definitely stay again.
