About us

The Crown Hotel Mundford is situated in the heart of Norfolk’s Thetford Forest. Sitting opposite the village green, we offer an informal welcome to all, whether you are travelling on business or enjoying a more relaxing stay in the area. Dating back to 1652 the Crown has seen many guises over the centuries, in particular as a renowned hunting inn playing host to the local magistrates court. What is particularly unusual for this part of the country is that the Crown is built into a hill, where you can equally walk in on ground floor level to the bars and to the first floor restaurant & garden.

We serve food daily, from an extensive bar menu and specials menu of the day, using as much locally sourced produce as possible. All menus are available in the bars, restaurants and garden, where we welcome families. In addition, we are dog friendly in our bars, garden and accommodation.

The village of Mundford is close to four main travel routes, making it ideally suited as a base, whether it is for business or pleasure. The local towns are a short commute and for those wishing to experience Norfolk’s city feel, Norwich is just forty minutes away. The fine Norfolk coastline boasts beautiful beaches and nature reserves, and can be reached in under an hour.

Being located within the forest makes us an ideal place to come in for a coffee, then enjoy a walk and return for lunch. We welcome groups of all sizes, any day of the week and offer a menu which caters for all appetites.

A lovely hotel connected to the pub. The hotel as adjacent to the pub with its own entrance. The room I had was a family suite with two bedrooms, a main bathroom and an additional toilet. A very generous sized room with a sofa, writing desk and a slay bed. Very clean and airy, the only one thin missing is a mirror in the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and there was even a fridge un the room. The pub itself had two bars down stairs and a restaurant upstairs. The smaller bar has a huge collection of good whisky, open fire and is good to sit and eat. The food was reasonably priced and my chicken Korma was tasty. Breakfast is an offering of cereals or a full English. For the price I paid, it is good value for money, in a lovely location and the staff are very welcoming and friendly.

Stayed here while visiting family. Very convenient and welcomingly warm. Staff are polite and listened to dietary requirements when ordering food. Rooms were clean and breakfast in the morning was nice too.

We stayed here two years ago on a birthday break for my wife and really enjoyed our stay. This time, it was for a coffee en route to N. Norfolk, where we stopped for lunchtime coffee and sandwiches. Lovely and warm next yo log fire on a cold New Year's Eve along with good coffee and tasty sandwiches. Reasonably priced.

Had a fantastic week at The Crown. Fantastic Rooms, friendly helpful staff, amazing food and set in a lovely rural area. Perfect for our base all week. Lovely open fires in both bars too. We had Bed, Breakfast, evening meal and a packed lunch, even on the day of our departure. The packed lunches alone were brilliant! Not a single complaint from our clients all week. Can't recommend this place enough! We will be back same time next year!

Stopped by on the way back from Norfolk, looking for an early evening meal, and we were more than pleasantly surprised. Typically rustic village pub downstairs, popular with the locals of a Sunday night from what we could see, with restaurant seating upstairs in the hotel. Suffice to say the home made steak and ale pie was fantastic; top quality meat and lots of it, with plenty of veg, whilst the memsahib had the lasagne, again fantastic. Highly recommended.
