About us

The Coopers Arms is a good old-fashioned drinking pub - and proud of it. The front of the building dates from the early 19th Century but parts of the pub are even older making it a Grade II Listed building. Every Arkell's pub has a character of its own and The Coopers has an atmosphere you couldn't reproduce. With a larger lounge and two smaller bars linked with serving hatches, this is the kind of place that pub traditionalists would travel miles for.

It's a thriving place, especially busy at weekends and even more so on nights when there is live music. But the pub is busy most of the week, just as you would expect from this type of pub which fulfills its duty as a community centre. You are just as liable to bump into members of the local folk club as the motorcycle enthusiasts or any of the several others clubs who meet here.

Right in the heart of Newbury, The Coopers Arms is as straightforward, honest and friendly as any pub you are ever likely to visit.

Disgusting breakfasts freezing cold even though our table was next to kitchen and I asked for well done toastand got black toast from not so funny kitchen staff

A very basic locals pub but full of character and one very decent real ale (Arkell's 3B). Probably not one to take your wife/girlfriend on a date but definitely one to visit for the ambience

Just went there a quick beer have fallen in love with the place. Have got ample place to sit inside and outside too. Great selection of whisky and Gin. Staff was nice, in fact he other customers were nice too. Had a good time! Highly recommended.

This place is absolutely perfect. It's a cheap, oldskool, family run pub, in the middle of town. Service is excellent and the price is low. One of the few remaining classics. It's not yet another "premium bar" that there are far too many of in Newbury. It knows exactly what it is and that's great in my opinion. 50p pool table and it's excellent too!!!!
