About us

A long-established favourite of the village and last defence from the ravages of the North Sea the pub has felt the wrath of the waves on at least three occasions. The last in the great storm of 1953 when the front was washed away and the fishermen looked on in sorrow as the precious bottles of brew bobbed about on the retreating foam. Locals will tell you that, until very recently, one had to wait for a retreating wave before making a dash into or out of the bar to avoid getting your feet wet! As the sign says: “In rough weather please use the other door”! So – spend some leisurely time feasting on a spectacular view or take refuge for lunch on a blustery winter’s day, cosy up to the blazing fire and watch the bobbing boats through the rain-lashed windows, or join us for an evening meal and perhaps be lucky to catch a full moon casting a spectacular blue light over the bay.

Food was great, massive portions! Couldn't even finish the chicken parmo because it was the size of the plate! 😁 The staff seemed lovely. The only complaint we had was that they didn't manage to put us all on the same table even tho we called and booked in advance. But it was a busy Saturday night so maybe they needed a bit more time to organise it.

Charming pub with amazing views and nice decor. Loved the many pictures of the bay and the pub throughout the years. Had the chowder and squid rings for starter (both were wonderful), followed by the signature Cod & Lobster which was super tasty, but slightly smaller than expected (not a huge deal, just meant we had space for pudding!) There are seats outside, which we avoided because it was windy and cold, but I imagine it must be brilliant to sit there and eat while watching the bay.

A dog friendly seafood restaurant with brilliant food and the service to match. Parking can be a bit tricky, especially during peak hours. But nonetheless, the place was top-notch. I'd highly recommend the whitebait starter!

Pub is right on the harbor. A proper small pub, everything you would expect from a local pub. Dog and family friendly . We just popped in for fish, chips & mushy peas, squid rings and a crab sandwich. All was fresh and loads of it. The fish was so soft and flakey. Shows how fresh it was and served with lovely chip shop chips. The squid rings were not coated in batter and so tasted of squid. Definitely not rubbery or chewy. Lastly the crab sandwich. If I was to complain it was fully filled with fresh crab. Nothing but crab. Exactly as it should be. A 2 handed job to eat. No complaints. Stunning. Service was wonderful and all 3 staff were busy, smiley and polite. Could sell the service on its own. A real gem

Heard or the pub numerous times and seen it on TV. Brilliant, not much more to say. Our food was excellent, a little on the small side, but it was topnotch. Loved the area and views and the pub itself was quirky and fitted in so well with the surrounding area, not spoilt by modernising it like so many other popular places. So worth the visit but be mindful that it is a harbour village and has no public carpark close by, you have to park up the hill, but can drop off or pickup as I did due to the rain. Will be back👍
