There is nothing memorable about this pub apart from its location outside the castle. There was no atmosphere. The selection of cask beers was not great but what there was was served reasonably well.
Room was damp broken shower door and mould toilet seat not fitted properly carpet and chair stained ,pillows very lumpy and the Downie lumpy and thin in places ,on leaving the keys not even a thank you won't be back
honestly not that great. coped with as we were out most of the time but would not stay again. bathroom was mouldy and wallpaper was gross and looked very damp. lots of dead spiders and cobwebs. the duvet had an old brown blood stain on the inside. bathroom very inaccessible, had to walk through the door sideways to get in. shower has steps up to it and door does not close tight. bed was comfy, bar staff were lovely, didn’t hear noise from the bar at night which was nice. good place near the train station. but unfortunately do not recommend.
Excellent location and a nice lively sports bar. Our room was on the top floor (45 rickety stairs to climb) which wasn't a problem for us. The twin room (No7) was a decent size, the beds (in my opinion) were very hard and not the most comfortable, lots of tea and coffee provided with good size mugs, small tv, hairdryer, iron, ironing board and fan also in the room. Free Wi-Fi is a bonus. Our only problem was the en-suite. It was far too small, the toilet seat was wobbly, the shower was situated on a high platform and was very awkward to get in as the doors slid closed as I tried to get in, there was significant mould about the shower which could easily have been sorted with a good dose of bleach, there was also a constant nasty sewer smell from the en-suite. As the hotel is in the centre of town, there was a lot of noise at night (again didn't bother us) so beware if you are looking for a quiet location this is not the place for you. Parking is just a couple of minutes walk away at the train station and is £5.85 for 24hrs, so that is very reasonable. The hotel don't provide any food but there are loads of places to eat close by, we recommend the little pie and bap shop a few doors up from the hotel for tasty pasties and sausage rolls at a cheap price. Would I visit again, probably yes but I'd ask for a different room because of the en-suite being awful.
No problems, easy check in. Pretty much right next door to the train station, which was handy as i had a train to catch first thing. Room all good, clean, comfy bed, toilet and shower fine. Room was a bit hot, fan was provided and i left the window open so it cooled down at night. No complaints, and would use again if i am ever back in the area. I cant comment on the bar or the drinks, as did not use them, shame tho as it looked welcoming enough.
