Quaint, cosy and full of charm from a bygone era. ‘The Glue Pot’ as it is far better known sits right on the harbour in Castletown and is literally a stone’s throw from Castle Rushen.
The story goes that it was built in 1750 by a wealthy man for his daughter and since then the building has been many things before finally becoming the pub we know and love today.
The name ‘glue pot’ derives from when smugglers used to pop in for some light refreshment and find it difficult to leave and the name just stuck. This pub is a hot spot for the World Tin Bath Races, the Southern 100 and the Manx rally.
The Glue Pot boasts it’s the closest pub to any castle wall in the UK and the only pub to appear on a currently circulated bank note.
An attractive and historic pub the Castle Arms is also known as The Glue Pot - presumably due to the difficulty experienced by some clientèle in extricating themselves! The Glue Pot is Situated next to Castletown harbour nestled beneath the walls of the ancient Castle Rushen, and handy for the other heritage attractions in Castletown. It has the distinction of being the only pub in the British Isles to feature on a banknote (Manx £5) The two small ground floor rooms have nautical and Manx motor racing themes. The patio is ideal on warm days for watching quayside vessels and waterfront wildlife.

Quiet Monday night, friendly staff helping visitors over for the racing.... Top place overall - didn't eat and not sure they do food in any case?
Lovely pub, enjoyed a few refreshing beers in good company, friendly staff, highly recommend
Great friendly staff, excellent choice of beers, a really good pub
Brilliant traditional pub serving great beer, including the local Okells beer. No TV, just a proper pub full of friendly people and great conversation. Occasionally some great local music too.
Just fantastic boozer. Like walking back into 1979. I love this place. Unpretentious, unfussy, dark and cosy, my favourite on Mann so far, The Bay View Hotel in Port Erin coming in a close second.

A registered historic building dating back to 1833. Steeped in history, some of it a little dark…
