The Bull at Gosmore has been run by Charlie and Kim Morrice since 2003 and encapsulates all that is good about the traditional English village pub. You’re guaranteed a warm welcome, real ales and exceptional cuisine.
The Bull can be found in the heart of the village of Gosmore, a charming and unspoilt Hertfordshire hamlet, surrounded by fields and beautiful countryside, which make it popular with walkers, cyclists and day-trippers. And yet its close proximity to the towns of Hitchin (1 mile) and Stevenage (5 miles) make it easily accessible and the perfect lunchtime retreat.
As soon as you enter this traditional 17th century inn you’re aware that you’ve stumbled upon something rather special. It has a genuinely warm and friendly atmosphere; with its uneven flagstone floors, exposed beams and its two large inglenook fireplaces it has retained many of its original features. But settle in, order a drink: perhaps a pint of the resident Doombar or London Pride, perhaps their guest ale, or maybe a chilled glass of wine from the extensive and affordably priced list, carefully sourced from vineyards around the world, and you’ll soon feel as relaxed and welcome as its many regulars.
Despite all this, the main reason so many people return is for the food, homemade and home cooked to order. Resident professional head chef, Charlie Morrice, insists upon using locally sourced and fresh ingredients wherever possible and the regularly changing, seasonal menu offers something for everyone.

Absolute perfection! The food was incredible, the staff couldn't have been more attentive and we had a wonderful night out on a cold and rainy April evening. The log fire and hot water bottle (I was not dressed for wintry weather!) were a welcome touch. Thank you xx
We had our company Christmas lunch here and it was absolutely super! The atmosphere was lovely, absolutely gorgeous pub, food was amazing and the staff really looked after us. I highly recommend this place!
We had a fantastic meal at the Bull - everything we ate was delicious (do yourself a favour and get the sticky toffee pudding), the wine list was well thought out and very reasonable, and the service was fantastic - shout out to Fred and Becks! We went on a Friday and it’s definitely worth booking in advance. Take away fish and chips looked excellent too!
One of the most beautiful pubs you’ll visit in Hertfordshire. Every single thing down to the staff, decor and of course food is 10/10 The roast dinner is the best I’ve had by far, cooked with love and of course all locally sourced. The staff are extremely friendly, accommodating & lovely. If you haven’t visited this pub yet, this is your sign to!!!!
Absolutely fantastic Sunday roast. Vast array of vegetables and a beautiful butternut squash and beetroot Wellington. Roast lamb recieving rave reviews also. Desserts were substantial and interesting flavours.
