About us

The Black horse is a 1950's build estate pub about 1 mile from the centre of Thornbury a thriving and well populated market town just north of Bristol , and across the River Severn from Chepstow. The pub is in excellent condition benefitting from the care of the current publicans who have built a great community site. The pub is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to develop community trade, introduce a food offer and live and work just outside a lovely market town.

The pub is in great order, having benefitted from a recent refurbishment to the front bar, laid out for eating and drinking. The bar and pool area to the rear of the pub has more standing room and focuses on enjoying a pint with friends, pub games and leads on to the skittles alley and function room. The front bar, which is the quieter lounge area can accommodate around 30 covers across comfortable fixed and loose seating. The rear bar can seat approximately 40 covers and has space for two pool tables, whilst the function room can also seat 40 customers and is ideal for small gatherings and events. Entertainment is a significant part of what the Black Horse has to offer, with singers, groups, and open mic. nights regularly on the bill.

The pub has benefitted from external decoration in recent years, which included new signage and an updated patio beer garden. At the front of the pub is a patio area, which is partially covered, with barrel style tables and chairs to seat 20 customers. There are a further two large picnic style benches to either side with space for more if required. At the back of the car park is a small lawn beer garden with four picnic style benches. The car park is of a good size, with spaces either side of the pub to accommodate around 20 vehicles.

I've read the negative reviews on this public house to which it was a badly run public house(pub) by the last landlord/s but now it's under new management to whom r my best friends di & merv and di has had very good experiences at running 5 to 6 or more other pubs and I wish di the best in running this pub as she knows how to the live music and karaoke di sorts out and will be absolutely fantastic like all ways and hopeful when the kitchen is done then the food will be worth trying as it will be absolutely great and the pub will have a nice welcome by di herself and the pub will be yet another well run pub by my friends di and merv I highly recommend you visit the pub to see for your self i am not sure when the next live music is on etc. but the music the last weekend was absolutely awesome and it was a great pub to be in good luck di and merv your do this pub great as u all ways do.

Dirty furniture, floors, glassware. Staff really unpleasant, everheard being really unkind about other customers (later found out one was owner). Really disappointing visit, wouldn't return, do not recommend at all

Wish I could give this place 0/5. Absolutely horrendous landlord who is rude and insensitive. He told the wife of someone who had attempted suicide that he should have done it, for no reason whatsoever other than because he’s a nasty, spiteful old man. A vile person with a hideous pub that should be boycotted by all.
