Unmissable in every sense, it’s just a short walk away from the historic cathedral and other major attractions, making it the perfect place for a pint for locals and tourists alike.
The pub’s traditional frontage suggests small and quaint, but this place holds a secret or two. The rear of the pub opens out onto one of the largest beer gardens in Canterbury - a real hidden gem in the city, and the place to be on a summer’s day.
There’s even a TV screen outside, showing all the latest action on Sky Sports. It’s one of five large screens throughout the pub, making this a really popular place to watch the big sporting occasions.
They’re best enjoyed, of course, with a perfectly poured pint in hand. You’ll find a great choice of traditional cask ales here (including Shepherd Neame’s ‘Bishop’s Finger’, naturally), alongside international lagers and wines from independent producers around the world.
There’s great fresh food too, with menu options ranging from tasty bar snacks to brilliant burgers. So if you’re looking for a pub in Canterbury with food, football and fabulous beer, let the Bishop’s Finger point the way.

After a hard day's work, it's great on the odd occasion to unwind and watch football with friends in pleasant surroundings. This is one of those places. Nice bar, great staff. Great selection of wines, spirits, and beers. Good food, too.
Pretty good pub centrally located. Nice selection of beers and ciders. Food was good but a little on the more expensive side. Pub garden is lovely and they were showing the football which is great. Unfortunately no baby changing facilities which makes it tough as a small family. We probably would revisit.
Canterbury is the kind of place that’s primed for a pub crawl. And yet, locals and visitors alike tend to find a favourite and stick to it – like the Bishops Finger. The Bishops Finger is head and shoulders above the competition, one of the area’s most in-favour drinking holes thanks to a huge range of craft ales and great accompanying grub. In summer, the doors are flung open and punters spill on to the street. Staff are enthusiastic and eager to ensure if you have a great time. It’s small enough and busy enough to encourage table reservations.
Came across this place as the Sat Nav took us to the Station Road West car park and this is the first place we passed. Greeted by friendly staff & given the option to eat in the rear garden. (Nicely shaded with Skysports on tv). Ordered our drinks then staff took our order. As shown in pics, we ordered 1/4 kilo of wings (comes in 1/4, 1/2 or 1 kilo) which tasted Southern fried, Vegan burger with Smug Veg loaded fries (soya burger with carrot & cougette, fries had smashed avocado, sliced chillies & a sweet sauce) & Streaking Pig buger (cheese, salt beef, bacon) with Messy Cow fries (Chilli, jalepenos & cheese). The Messy Cow fries do have a nice heat to them. The burgers were nice & juicy & the wings cooked perfectly. The wait for the food was around 10 mins (all other customers looked to be drinking only in the heat). No vegan option for dessert so only 2 of us has some, ice cream trio & a nice sticky toffee with custard. Would recommend if visiting Canterbury
Nice atmosphere, good beer and tasty food! If you are big eater the portions may be a bit small. Luckily for me they couldn't make a kids portion of fish and chips, so I had my daughter's leftovers 😅
