The Birdcage is part of Draft House, a small group of Public Houses which aims to do for beer what our culture has done for food and wine over the past twenty years. Namely, we take its provenance, cellaring and serving seriously. We celebrate choice and quality with an extraordinary range of strange and wonderful brews.
We also serve delicious, hearty food which goes well with our beer.
Amazing place just off the flower market! Roast was the best we have had in a long time! My little one loved it especially her desert. Recommend to all
Really lovely crew, and delicious burger! The waiters are super friendly đđť
Nice looking pub at face value in a popular spot on Columbia road but absolutely NOT worth your time or money!! Tables are very dirty, never wiped down, glasses and plates not cleared on every single table, you have to ask to have the table wiped and for things to be cleared by the very unwilling staff. I ordered a pork roast - potatoes were absolutely not roast potatoes, they were undercooked at best, accompanied by a stupid amount of carrots with literally 4 green beans. The pork was sliced very thinly, no crackling at all but soggy and chewy fat all over it. The Yorkshire was undercooked and floppy - I couldnât even eat it. The gravy came cold in a paper cup. It was ÂŁ19 (!!!!) and the worst roast I have ever had, a total and utter rip off with dirty cutlery to eat with and no napkins offered. To also make this pub not worth visiting is the fact the ladies bathroom had no toilet paper in all three cubicles, water all over the floor and one blocked sink leaving only one to wash your hands. Myself and my three friends had asked the bar staff if more toilet paper could please be put into the bathroom as we had all gone and been caught short. They said yes. It didnât happen. So I asked again when I went to the bar on my way to the toilet next, along with another lady who was asking. My request was met with hostility by the young and extremely rude staff. With 4 of them standing there with hands on hips saying no, they had no more toilet paper and wouldnât be getting more to put in there. Because âyou guys keep using the bathroom and all the paperâ So âYOU GUYSâ - actual paying customers, on a busy Sunday afternoon, canât even use the bathroom as a basic amenity with toilet paper!! Especially for women, that is absolutely not acceptable. I was told in no uncertain terms that they werenât going to do anything about it and âwhy donât you use napkinsâ - whereas they knew there was no paper in there so THEY, the employees, should have replaced it with napkins themselves or found another solution rather than us ladies going in there, doing our business, finding there is nothing to wipe with then being met by utterly disrespectful staff who didnât give a toss. What a disgrace this pub is and what a terrible bunch of staff working there. I certainly will not be going back there, neither will my friends and if youâre reading this, I would recommend that you donât either.
Very chill cozy pub with plenty of drink and food options. They have 2-4-1 specials in the evenings (ÂŁ12 for both cocktails when you order two of the same kind). Thereâs a terrace so makes it for a lovely spot on sunny or warmer days. We tried multiple cocktails and couldnât point just one as a recommendation, they all were pretty great to be part of an offer, so Iâd recommend for some drinks and snacks!
đ Hoxton đşÂ ÂŁ6.55 Lost Lager â¤ď¸ A Brewdog pub on historic Columbia Road. . The Birdcage is located on Columbia Road and is perched at the end of a picturesque row of Victorian shops. This road is famous for the Sunday flower market which is definitely worth a visit. Getting here is easy, Hoxton overground station is just a five minute walk away. . This pub is very easy on the eye, the beautiful glazed emerald green tiles add a touch of Victorian glamour to this building. . The bar area is laid out in and L shape and the pub does feels quite spacious. The tall windows bathe this pub in light making the ambience bright and airy. The elegant servery is clad in solid wood, the columns are a nice feature but slightly hinder being served. At the back left side is a traditional fireplace with an old Joanna to the right. . This is a Brewdog pub so the beer choice is full of their in house brews on draft, in cans and bottles. I had a pint of Lost Lager which Iâve had before, itâs an ok pint but expensive considering its an own brand brew. If youâre hungry there is a full menu of pub classics, wings, burgers and roasts are available on a Sunday. Fish and Chips costs ÂŁ15 which is average price for London. . I arrived around 3pm on a Saturday and it was fairly busy and there was a nice buzz around the place. If youâre visiting the flower market on a Sunday be warned it can get absolutely rammed in here. . The Birdcage is undoubtedly a very attractive pub and will appeal to a younger audience. The price point makes this an expensive place to have a pint. Worth a visit as part of a crawl of the area. . âšď¸Â Info correct on visiting 22/10/22
