The Bay Horse Tavern is a modern take on a Victorian Pub, positioned on Thomas Street right in the heart of Manchester’s Northern Quarter. It is a laid-back spot with charm and personality to spare, a home away from home to relax in warm and comfortable surroundings with a vast range of gins, craft beers and other libations.
One of the nicest burgers I've had in Manchester, great cosy atmosphere inside and nice team serving drinks, very polite but the only thing that let it down was the nearly hour wait for the food, I get it was busy and I'm usually the most patient person but this was very long, but on the bright side it was a work lunch so the delay meant we missed meetings so not the end of the world. Recommend the burger, as well as the fish, my boss was too full so had a bit of that, as well as my colleagues mash and sausage which also tasted great!
Excellent food, drinks and service at The Bay Horse. Even better with 50% off food in January 😀
Dining Experience @ The Bay Horse Tavern. . Styled as a modern take on the humble pub, they quickly picked up awards for their delicious restaurant-quality dishes served in a cozy setting. . Ambience has plenty of classic pub character, including an antique feature fireplace, and decorated mantelpieces. The main bar on the ground floor features mustard-coloured chesterfields and teal banquettes, with tiled floors and a dartboard. Pop downstairs to find a cozy and intimate dining space, flanked by the open kitchen. . Service is friendly and efficient. Staff take and fulfil orders quickly, cleaning up efficiently when diners leave. Very welcoming, they also accomodate families with children. . Food is classic British English pub grub, from grazing plates to quick bites. Ingredients are locally sourced, dishes prepared from scratch. There's a good range of craft beers. Portions are medium sized for individuals. Prices are reasonable, budget about GBP £19 per person. . The Beer Bay Horse Pilsner (GBP £5.70) is the house craft brew, a refreshing tipple. . The Beef Steak & Ale Pie (GBP £12.50) features a medium-sized pie, with a flaky pastry pie crust dough carrying bready sweet savoury buttery flavour. . Within are chunks of beef chuck steak, white onions, and diced carrots, slow-braised with ale and beef gravy till everything turns tender and juicy, resulting in robust meaty salty savoury flavour. . The pie is garnished with crispy fried shallots, lending a light crunch and vegetal salty savoury flavour. . Served with creamy smooth mashed potato with starchy sweet savoury flavour, and chunky gooey mushy peas with vegetal grassy earthy sweet flavour. Completed with more beef gravy on the side.
Thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Bay Horse Tavern. My work team and I came for their pub quiz but booked a table to have dinner beforehand. We sent in a pre-order as we were a large group and the staff were very accomodating and friendly when we arrived. Our food was served quickly too and it was absolutely delicious! Everyone enjoyed their meals and we were left very happy. As we were joining the pub quiz, we were seated downstairs near the kitchen which meant we had to go upstairs to the bar for drinks. This wasn't really an issue, but it would have been convenient if their QR code worked or had wait staff so we didn't have to constantly go up and down. The pub quiz was also very fun, we all had a great time!
Highly recommend going on a Wednesday for 50 percent off food - we also used the happy hour deal on drinks which is on till 7! We had two cocktails each, I also had a pilsner, we shared a starter, onion rings and had a main each. Our bill was just under £50 for the two of us, which is amazing value for money. The service was overall quite good, especially from the lovely girl behind the bar who took our food order. Food came a lot quicker than expected and was all really tasty and fresh. The chips and onion rings were unreal - we both really enjoyed our mains. However, we was disappointed at how tiny the portion size was for the pork belly small plate - 3 small pieces for £8 (without 50 percent off) seems a lot. We would definitely return for the Wednesday deal as really good value for money in a lovely venue - would recommend booking rather than walk-in :)
