About us

The Anchor Inn at Hillfarrance is a rare Somerset gem, having been owned and run by the same family for nearly 18 years. With an emphasis on fresh food and local produce, Laura and her team produce exciting, seasonal menus, offering interesting well thought out dishes. From their ‘small plates’ dishes, to Greek inspired gyros, fabulous homemade burgers using Exmoor farmed beef, not to mention their highly recommended Sunday roast and Famous Anchor homemade pies.

Looking after their customers is their top priority, which is why they’ve held a 5* food hygiene rating for some 15 years and why they so confidently offer gluten free and dairy free dishes as standard. Team Anchor pride themselves on their menu planning and the wider team’s menu knowledge that allows customers with allergens to feel safe when dining at the Anchor.

Their attention to delivering professional, warm and friendly customer service, alongside first class dishes makes them one of Somerset’s best loved pubs. In fact, last week we informed them they’ve been shortlisted for Somerset County Gazette Pub of the Year. “Being in the same business for so many years has given us a wealth of experience, an opportunity to evolve steadily and really understand our very loyal customers.” said Laura Magee, owner and manager of the Anchor Inn.

This is our local for food and honestly, it can't be beaten. If you want fresh, local, homemade food, this is where you need to come! We try to limit ourselves to once a month but end up in here probably more than we care to admit as it's that good ha. Always a friendly welcome, cold drinks and hot food. Great with our toddler too and she's been visiting since she was 18months old. Great to support local and we will continue visiting for as long as we live in the area.

Works Xmas meal. Great service. Lovely xmassie room for the meal. Very organised staff. Lovely brie starter with an extremely disappointing main meal. Hard veg, sprouts like bullets. Roast potatoes are undercooked and not crispy. The meat was dry and bland. The desserts were good except for the gateaux. Great coffee

Another family meal here - birthday sunday lunch. The staff were lovely and service was good..food was tasty ..its just a shame it was served luke warm. Plates cold, food lukewarm....people next to us sent their dinner back as it was cold. We had to wait a while for food to be served which the staff apologised for but just not warm when it finally arrived. So why didnt we say anything?.....because we were all absolutely starving and it was a birthday meal and we didn't want to make a fuss...Also despite being pre-warned it was a birthday celebration and promised a recognition of this (birthday platter) nothing at all was forthcoming. On discussing this with barstaff on paying the bill absolutely no recognition of the above was forthcoming. Sadly family members decided they will not return.. ...Note to kitchen....don't serve lovely food lukewarm....and don't say u will acknowledge a celebration when you don't! Sorry guys...I know you work hard but a real let down on this occasion.

We enjoyed a very nice evening meal here last week. They have an excellent 'specials' board which included a 'fish of the day'. In fact, my husband opted for the Hake. I chose the gammon steak. Great service, served with a friendly smile. Attentive, efficient staff. A talented chef too, as the food was perfectly cooked, tasty, and well presented. We've been in here before and they are consistently good. The desserts were mouthwatering delicious. I particularly enjoyed the tiramisu cheesecake ... Wow! It was sublime. They have good local ales. I'd advise booking in the bar areas as for me, it's nicer than the main dining area. It feels cosier and more intimate. Horses for courses though. Well priced. Next time, I may try one of their award winning pies.

Didn't stay so can't rate the rooms. Food wonderful, and superb customer service. Staff genuinely interested in customers and couldn't be more helpful. Excellent food at really reasonable prices in this current economic climate. Highly recommended a visit.
